Well, what can we say, London certainly didn’t let us down. It really is a fantastic vibrant city, and we came away with so much to think about! We had such a good time that I think it’s worth writing about for anyone else planning a trip…
Day 1
Firstly, our hotel, Hotel Indigo near Tower Hill, is part of a chain with a great urban boutique aesthetic, combining luxury finishes with exposed brick and colourful highlights. The location was ideal, as it made it possible to take off on foot to explore the city…and there were complimentary chocolate bars in the mini-bar, much to our delight!
We took a took of Tower Bridge, less than five minutes walk from our hotel, where there are great views up and down the river of architectural landmarks from “The Guerkin” to the Design Museum…
Walking through the Butler Wharf area towards the Design Museum we admired the apartments overhead with their criss-crossing balconies. We picked up a copy of The London Design Guide in the Design Museum, which is a great resource for exploring design outlets in the city, and is broken up into boroughs, with suggested walking routes. As we retraced our steps, stumbled upon The Vault bar, located right underneath the base of Tower Bridge. It had a great view under the bridge at the fast moving river!
We finished of the day at the Brixton Academy, where we saw the fantastic Explosions in the Sky. It was our first time at the venue and it really is spectacular.
Next post will cover day 2 of the trip!
